Tourist attractions are things and places that draw visitors by providing something of interest or pleasure. Some that come to mind are the Giant Peach in Gaffney, South Carolina, and the Gateway Arch of Saint Louis.
These attractions are located along roads, in prominent spots, and in nooks and crannies across the United States. Some are grand, and others are bizarre. They create experiences, help break up a long drive, and make businesses stick out.
A few months ago, I learned about some incredible attractions within and just outside the City of High Point, North Carolina. High Point is famously known for its furniture, so it wasn’t too surprising that these two attractions are the following:
– World’s Largest Chest of Drawers
– World’s Largest Highboy
I was recently in Winston-Salem for a work conference and decided to visit these attractions. Since Winston is very close to High Point. Here’s what I found.
World’s Largest Chest of Drawers
Address: 508 North Hamilton Street, High Point, NC 27262
This downtown attraction was constructed in 1926 and is either 36 or 38-foot tall. I’m unsure because one source said 36 feet tall, and two others said 38 feet tall.
This four-drawer replica is suitable for a kid giant’s bedroom. The exterior finish looks just like hardwood and is fitted with brass-painted hardware.
Two pairs of giant socks dangle from one of the slightly open drawers. Today’s socks are purple with yellow toes and blue with light blue toes and white stars. Older pictures of this feature show different colored socks. Are these accessories regularly switched out or painted over by the owners?
When visiting, look for a driveway beside the Chest to park or some on-street parking. I observed a lot of traffic on North Hamilton Street, so be mindful of the traffic when photographing yourself. This attraction is close to the road.
World’s Largest Highboy Chest
Address: 5635 Riverdale Dr, Jamestown, NC 27282
Highboys have nothing to do with drugs. They are simply a tall chest of drawers with 5 to 7 long drawers and two short ones, instead of the standard Chest with 3 or 4 drawers. Well, there’s a “sky-highboy” version of this piece at the Furnitureland South campus.
Since 1998, this impressive 85-foot reproduction has stood beside The Mart entrance. This is fitting because Furnitureland South is the world’s largest furniture store, according to their website.
“If you want to be the largest, you need to build the largest damn highboy chest in the world. Boom.”
The detail on this enormity is incredible, up to the patterns on the legs and front and to the brass hardware. You have to see it for yourself, and you can do so from highway I-85 BUS /US 29/US 70. The thing is so massive.
There’s plenty of parking at Furniture South. And once again, be mindful of cars cruising through when taking selfies of yourself in the parking lot.

I recommend checking out these two attractions if you’re in the High Point area or passing through. These extra-large pieces of furniture are not even 15 minutes from each other, so checking out both in one trip is very feasible.
More North Carolina activities and attractions are in the VisitNC Things to Do directory. Some are close to where you live. Here’s the link to that: https://www.visitnc.com/things-to-do?type=Activity,Attraction
