What I’m about to do with their names is what they do in their brand-new podcast.
I wish! It’s not quite the same thing.
I’ve never met them, so I wouldn’t drop their names like that, unlike the names they and their guests drop while recording the podcast.
They are my favorite Number One from Star Trek, and the other played one of the most famous androids, in my expert opinion on science fiction, also from Star Trek: Jonathan Frakes and Brent Spiner.

And they have a brand new podcast called Dropping Names with Brent and Jonny that I want to put on your radar.

Meet The Hosts
In case you have been living in some strange new world and don’t know Jonathan or Brent, like I don’t in real life, here’s a little bit about each.

Jonathan Frakes (Jonny) is an awesome television actor, director, and host. Probably best known for playing Commander William T. Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Frakes’ IMDb lists 51 director credits, working extensively on the current Star Trek series. I still believe he hosts Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction. Remember the one Beyond Belief episode when he rode a mountain bike on-screen, wearing a yellow helmet, and asked us: “Have you ever been mountain biking?”
“Well, I haven’t ever mountain biked. Please don’t think lower of me. Well, if you knew me, that is.”

Brent Spiner is best known for playing Data, the yellow-eyed android from Star Trek: The Next Generation and beyond. Spinner also does a crap load of voice-over work, like Batman’s The Joker. You might recognize him as Dr. Brackish Okun from the Independence Day movies. I believe the first thing I saw him in was Bobert ‘Bob’ Wheeler from Night Court. LOL!
Their Description of the Podcast
To get a better explanation of their podcast, here’s the description from the official Dropping Names with Brent and Jonny YouTube page linked at the end of this blog:
“Dropping Names…and other things with Brent & Jonny is the comedy-conversation podcast from Star Trek: The Next Generation stars Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes. Each episode, these longtime friends sit down with fascinating characters they’ve met across decades in Hollywood.
Whether you’re a sci-fi fan, a film buff, or just here for the laughs, this is the show where great stories meet great conversations… and a few names get dropped along the way.
Subscribe for weekly episodes, trailers, and exclusive behind-the-scenes content.”
Guests So Far and When Do New Episodes Come Out
There have been two episodes of Dropping Names with Brent and Johnny dropped so far in the past few weeks. Each episode was around an hour long.
PBS host and acclaimed actor LeVar Burton was their guest for the first episode, which came out on Wednesday, January 28. I think LeVar was an awesome first guest. His impact influenced several generations of kids as the host of Reading Rainbow from 1983 to 2006. And he is very important to the hosts for his role as Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

I love the chemistry between the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation. You can tell that they really adore each other. In this episode, the trio talked about Reading Rainbow, the Picard TV series, LeVar’s Vegas bachelor party, and, of course, more.
The second episode was released on Wednesday, February 11, with John Logan as the guest. Logan is an American playwright and screenwriter. He wrote Gladiator, The Aviator, Sweeney Todd, Hugo, The Last Samurai, and the Bond Film Skyfall. These are some major films, and another great person to drop some names on the podcast with all the famous people he’s met along the way.

I wasn’t familiar with Logan before this episode. We learn that they are all friends and go way back. Logan discusses working with famous people like Martin Scorsese, dinner with Sir Patrick Stewart, and Bond movies.
During each episode, the hosts asked their guests who they didn’t like working with or something to that effect. They didn’t name any names but shared stories with those they chose. I understand why, but I wish they had.
Also, the hosts said this is not a Star Trek podcast; however, Star Trek has been the subject of much of the podcast so far. It’s unavoidable.
I didn’t see anything on their social accounts, YouTube, or website about when new episodes are coming out. But if they continue this schedule, they will drop every other Wednesday. We’ll see if the third episode comes out on February 25.
