Seven Beats Inspired By The Last Of The Mohicans Film That Upper Cut Any Of My Crappy Attempts During College

Once upon a time, with a free Fruity Loops download, yours truly made horrendous beats. I was on a negative level to Dr. Dre or Pharrell Williams. I’ve always been a decent rap fan and wanted to make some bangers like these mega producers did.

This was way before I graduated from Appalachian State University with a broadcasting degree. Thanks to the audio production classes, I learned some basics of creating, recording, editing, and mixing audio in the multitrack software we used. I believe we used Adobe Audition, and I must admit that I wasn’t super stellar at it, but I was enough to be dangerous.

When you’re immersed in your studies, it’s hard for it not to bleed over into your non-academic life. In our audio projects, we used a lot of loops, instrumental music from CDs, and sound effects. I preferred the rap beat music we had access to and eventually wanted to make my own, like Dre and Pharrell.

Also, during this time, I was really obsessed with The Last of the Mohicans soundtrack. The 1992 motion picture won an Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing the following year, for Pete’s sake. I still enjoy the central theme, Promentory, to this very day. 

I made a lot of crappy beats during these college years, but one of the worse when I tried to make one with this The Last of the Mohicans music. I remember getting the loop tight but couldn’t with the bass and drums. 

Recently I went down a YouTube rabbit hole and listened to some damn good beats that used music from The Last of the Mohicans. Here are the best ones, in my opinion. The seven producers, beat makers, and YouTubers did what I couldn’t in the order YouTube sent them my way.
