Charlie Cox is definitely back kicking ass in the new Daredevil: Born Again trailer from Disney’s D23 that leaked onto Youtube. I watched it and my reaction is that it looks frackin amazing.
Born Again is the most highly anticipated new series on the Marvel Cinematic Universe calendar for me. I’ve only seen some photos of Born Again online, but this was my first time seeing the series’ old and new villains on film.
Because some of these new villains were unfamiliar to me, I did a quick internet search to learn about them. I now know a little bit about these characters, and I would like to share just that amount with you now.
So let’s do the opposite of an Olympic high dive and do a shallow dive into these villains: Kingpin, Bullseye, Muse, and maybe White Tiger.
First off, Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin:
Cheers to another reprisal by Vincent D’Onofrio as the powerful crime boss. There’s not much to say here because we should all know who Kingpin is by now, but I expect, like usual, that Kingpin will be the main overarching villain / big baddy of the show. Also, I should mention that he’s incredibly strong and durable, demonstrated in both the Disney Plus series, Hawkeye and Echo.
Secondly, Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter, aka Bullseye:
Wilson Bethel returns as Bullseye in Daredevil: Born Again. It looks like he’s just getting out of jail in the trailer. We first saw Bethel’s Bullseye in Season 3 of the Netflix DD series as a DD imposter. Bullseye has been a classic DD psychopathic villain for almost fifty years. He is a master marksman and can turn any object into a deadly flying weapon.
Thirdly, Muse:
IMDB has Michael Gandolfini appearing in DareDevil but doesn’t say who. Is he playing Muse? This character is entirely new to me. His mask reminds me of Rorschach’s mask from Watchmen. The white mask has no mouth, with black ink splatters for eyes, and streams of black ink are crying from the eyes down his face. According to Marvel.fandom.com, this “deranged artist” ‘s powers include imperceptibility (it’s hard for him to be perceived), superhuman strength, and superhuman speed.
Lastly, White Tiger, who may not be maybe a villain
Like Muse, White Tiger is a new character to me. We first see Matt Murdock visiting him in prison, then close-ups of him suiting up, and then there’s a great shot of him sporting a predominantly white mask with black accents. I’m unsure if this White Tiger is a vigilante or a bad guy in Born Again. Suppose this is the Hector Ayala incarnation, then most likely on the good side because of his team-ups with Daredevil and Spider-man in the comics. Matt could be helping him get out of jail or something like that. All the White Tigers have your normal enhanced strength, speed, agility, durability, senses, and healing factor.
In addition to these characters, Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), and The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) are all returning. I’m hoping to see Jessica Jones or Luke Cage appear in the series at some point. I read several rumors like that Krysten Ritter was spotted on the DD: Born Again set, but none are confirmed.
Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled to stream in March 2025 on Disney Plus.
