There have been many rumors and speculations about Captain America: Brave New World since its announcement in spring 2021. Expected to hit theaters on February 14, 2025, Brave New World brings back Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) as the winged Captain America who, according to the movie’s IMDB, “finds himself in the middle of an international incident.” Whatever that means.
A few days ago, Marvel Studios dropped the Captain America: Brave New World trailer, and I got my first official look at the movie. Sure, there were a few leaked set photos along the way that were cool to see, but they gave me less information about the upcoming movie than the trailer did. So here are six things the trailer, with help from the movie’s IMDB page, confirmed some of the rumors I read on social media.
1) Thunderbolt Ross is the new POTUS.
First, rest in peace to William Hurt, who originally played Ross and passed away in 2022. Marvel cast Harrison Ford to replace Hurt, and he looks fantastic in the trailer. We know he’s the new president of the United States because in the scene where Sam Wilson says to Ross, “I have to admit I am still getting used to the new look.” Then Ross replies, “They said to lose the mustache or lose the election.” Hurt rocked a mustache for his Thaddeus Ross, and this acknowledges that there’s a new Ross.
2) Tim Blake Nelson is back playing the Leader, according to IMDB.
At 1:04 in the trailer, we see a man wearing a hat on the phone with his back to us, and we hear someone say, “Global power is shifting; you’re just the pawn.” I believe this man is the Leader, and we hear his voice. The man reminded me of Walter White, so there’s a chance it could be him. Let’s start a new rumor that Heisenberg is the big baddy of Cap 4: Brave New World.
3) Sam Wilson may be Captain America, but you’re no Steve Rogers.
Well, yeah! We’ve known this since Sam picked up the mantle in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. This is a line of dialogue that Ross says to Sam that I thought was super dope—which is very accurate! Sam has and will develop his type of Captain America.
4) Joaquin Torres will finally suit up as the new Falcon.
Torres (played by Danny Ramirez) made his MCU debut in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. We know that Torres becomes the Falcon in the comics. A scene in the trailer shows two individuals with winged flying suits. One is Captain America, and the other is Torres, the new Falcon and Captain America’s sidekick.
5) The Red Hulk will appear in Captain America 4.
There have been many rumors about Thunderbolt Ross becoming the Red Hulk in Brave New World. At the end of the trailer, we see Red Hulk catch Captain America’s shield and throw it down to the ground. Red Hulk has superhuman strength, durability, endurance, and can emit heat. The character, who I assume will be Ross, is incredibly powerful. I mean, it’s a Hulk after all. It will be interesting to see how Sam stops him in the movie.
6) Giancarlo Esposito is playing a character who loves guns.
A few weeks back, a set photo of Esposito’s character leaked. In this photo, he’s wearing sunglasses and has knives strapped to his chest. Neither the trailer nor IMDB has given us who he’s playing, but every scene from the trailer that Esposito’s character is in showed him either shooting a gun or reloading a gun. Social media says he’s playing George Washington “G.W.” Bridge, who joined SHIELD and loves guns. Esposito apparently said that no one had guessed who he was playing correctly, but that could have been a smoke screen or more social media rumors.
I want several more things answered. For example, what is Betty Ross up to since Liv Tyler is also returning? How much of the Serpent Society will be in Brave New World because IMDB lists Rosa Salazar as playing Diamondback? What’s going on with Isaiah Bradley? Who will the real villain be since we have three to choose from?
But really, I don’t want Marvel to tell us everything. We need some surprises in February. The new suit and movie look amazing. Sam Wilson has always been one of my favorite Avengers, and we’re finally getting the Red Hulk. To Captain America: Brave New World, I’m all in.
