Dad and I ate at Floyd and Blackies (FB) after finding out they served lunch. Last week, we dropped in because I wanted one of their Sun Drop cherry lemon cupcakes (which are brilliant, by the way). Their lunch menus caught our attention and immediately got added to our list of restaurants to check out.
Until now, I thought FB only served coffee, bread, cakes, other dessert items, and ice cream. It was fantastic to learn that they also serve lunch Tuesday through Saturday between 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Their lunch menu includes various appetizers, salads, sandwiches, chicken tenders, cold plates, and hotdogs that customers can pair with one of their eight sides.
The sandwiches are served on your choice of white, wheat, rye, sourdough, or croissant. Next time, I must ask if they make their own bread with them also being a bakery.
One of Dad’s favorite foods is hot dogs. He ordered their 100% all-beef Classic Hotdog (homemade chili, slaw, onion, & mustard) and French fries. I went with the meatball sub and also with French fries. Dad enjoyed his dog, and the meatballs had a great savory flavor.
We had to get ice cream afterward since FB has two coolers of almost 40 different Hershey flavors. Because when in Rome, right? Dad got a cup of black cherry, and I ate some milk & cookies scoops. I sampled his and can report both of these flavors are good, but I prefer the milk & cookies. They have like 36 other premium flavors that I need to try.
In case you didn’t know, FB is still located on 8th Avenue on Cramerton but moved across the street into the old South Fork Mason Lodge (142 8th Ave) diagonally from their old location and directly across from Goat Island, which seemed easily accessible from a brand-new adjacent downtown parking lot.
We sat inside, but there was outdoor seating at the front with a great view of the South Fork River. The inside is decorated with fun things with Floyd and Blackies written on them, classic coffee shop furbishing, and a whole bunch of historical Cramerton memorabilia. I saw some neat black-and-white photographs of the old mill building and dirt roads. There are also games if you need something like that to do.
Even though most of the tables were filled with people, I still found the lunch hour vibe chill and calm.
FB also has a breakfast menu served in the mornings from 6 to 11 on the same days lunch is available. You can order traditional egg and breakfast meat (sausage, bacon, etc.), sandwiches, bowls, omelets, and sides for their breakfast.
I would absolutely go back, and I am very curious about their breakfast menu. And next time I get ice cream afterward, I’ll have to hit up one of the Goat Island Greenways.
