Before we begin, I would like to thank the town of AltaVista for letting us use one of their picnic shelters for another one of these joyous occasions. It took calling the mayor, city council members, the city manager, and several directors to secure this space. It’s like they were trying to ignore me. Still, we’re here now—what a lovely space it is.
I would also like to thank Nature for providing us with such insufferable weather today. The reports initially showed the high nineties and rain, but instead, we have mid-nineties and some sprinkles. We are blessed and sweaty.
And a big thanks to you all for coming to the latest induction of another individual into the Todds of the Month club. The Todd of the Month works like this for anyone new here for the splendor. It is an award given by my blog, Stormstrouper.com. It works just like Employees of the Month, but we present this achievement to individuals and things named Todd. Not because the individual did something exceptional or remarkable. How does that sound? Like music to your ears.
We’ve brought a great group of Todds together so far. We only need a few more Todds to have enough for the most majestic kickball team the National Kickball League will ever see. This All-Star team includes the famous Simpsons cartoon Todd Flanders. At almost 3,000 feet, we have Todd, North Carolina, in the mountains. The intergalactic Todd the Wraith. Then there is me. I am the Todd behind Stormstrouper.com and the Todds of the Month captain. I’ll talk more about the kickball team in the future. It will be brilliant.
Now it’s time to deepen the roster, fill another seat at the round table, etcetera, etcetera.
Before I reveal the Todd of May, I must divulge that I planned to induct a different Todd into our ranks. Still, something happened while driving into AltaVista that changed my mind. Don’t worry; the original Todd in mind will have their turn. In fact, the same thing happened to you also when you got off the Interstate, then made your sixth right, then first right, second left, then a slight left, then another left, then a right onto Todd Street before a few more turns to the Altavista park where we are at now. Let me speak briefly about Todd Street, the May and 5th Todd of the year.
Todd Street is approximately 2,149 feet or 0.41 miles long, paved, and has gutters on both sides. Exactly 37 AltaVistans made the best decision to live on this prestigious road, which I believe was constructed in 1981. Never mind its bumps and old pavement, this beautiful public road rivals the Pacific Coast Highway, Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Million Dollar Highway. So, let’s give Todd Street a standing ovation.
That’s now five Todds on the kickball team. Seven more Todds will be honored on Instagram (@stormstrouper) and Stormstrouper.com between June and December 2024. Make sure you follow along to see who else will be honored.
